This July, Go Beyond Fireworks and Flags
Many children celebrate Independence Day without ever fully understanding the courage, sacrifice, and ideas that shaped America’s story.
America’s Road to Independence invites families to slow down and step into history together.
Over four weeks, students will follow the journey from colonies to country as they explore the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Along the way, they’ll encounter influential figures, wrestle with important questions about freedom and responsibility, and reflect on how faith and character shape the choices we make.
Designed to finish just before the 4th of July, this experience helps children connect the celebration of Independence Day with the history behind it in a meaningful and memorable way.

A Simple Companion Book to Guide the Journey
This unit study is designed to be used alongside the companion book What Is the Declaration of Independence?
The book is widely available online for around $3.99 (up to $7.99) and helps guide many of the readings and discussions throughout the study.
Designed for Real Summer Schedules
This unit study is scheduled to be delivered June 7 so you can start the 4-week journey on June 8 and finish July 3, just in time to celebrate. However, you can join any time and adjust the schedule to fit your summer.
Whether you complete the study in four weeks, start June 8, or wait to start on Independence day, the goal is simple: helping your children better understand the story behind the celebration.
The study is ideal for ages 7–12, but many activities can easily include younger and older siblings, making it a meaningful family experience.
Some optional activities may require additional preparation or materials depending on how far your family wants to take the experience. For example, students may choose to simply watch how colonial candle making worked, or try creating candles themselves.
